Most of us love to look at penguins. They are interesting animals to be sure. But here are some fun facts about Penguins you may not be aware of.

Penguins are able to adapt to different climates. So not only can they withstand very harsh and cold climates but they also have the ability to adapt to warmer climates as well if need be.
Penguins live in large colonies called rookeries. They are very social creatures and interact well together.
The normal mode of communication amongst Penguins is through body language. They have movements and gestures.
Penguins spend most of their lives in the water. Yes they do stand around on ice flows, etc. However they need to swim in order to fish and provide food for themselves and their offspring.
The female Penguin lays the egg (obviously). But following this she goes off to hunt for food. During this time, the male keeps the egg warm and causes it to hatch. He then cares for the offspring until the female returns with food.
The bodies of Penguins are insulated with a thick layer of blubber to help keep them warm.
They can actually walk faster than humans. Bet you didn’t know that!
Penguins can hold their breath for around 20 minutes under water. Bet you didn’t know that either!
They leap out of the water while swimming to land on the ice and move to their Rookeries.
Baby penguins are born with soft feathers called down. But at this stage it does not provide much warm so they are completely dependent on their parents for food and warmth.

It should also be noted that Penguins are not afraid of humans. But they are threatened by things caused by man such as oil spills, water pollution, etc. So we must do all we can to try to protect these amazing creatures.

I think most people would agree that Ronald Reagan was a great President and initiated many important changes which still impact and benefit us today.

However, there may be some things you didn’t know this famous President, so here are some Ronald Reagan Fun Facts.

In his early years, Ronald became a lifeguard at Lowell Park in Illinois where he saved 77 people from drowning.

After graduating from college he became a Chicago Cubs radio announcer in Des Moines, IA. This job brought him to Hollywood in 1937 to cover the Cubs during spring training.

While there he took a screen test and ended up signing a contract with Warner Brothers for the princely sum of $200 per week.

During his acting career Reagan appeared in over 50 films.

Reagan originally became involved in politics as a Democrat. However his political affiliation began to shift when he began to work for Richard Nixon’s election in 1960. He eventually officially joined the Republican Party in 1962.

During is presidency Reagan came up with several phrases which are still in use today. This includes “New World Order”, “The Welfare Cadillac”, and his most famous phrase “Trickle Down Economics” or “Reaganomics” as many people have called it.

President Reagan was very fond of jelly beans and snacked on them often. He was particularly fond of the Jelly Belly brand.

The company developed a special blueberry flavor to match the colors used in Regan’s inaugural event. It featured bowls of these special Jelly Belly beans. There were almost 3,000,000 jelly beans served at this event.

If you too desire to fill your garden with fresh strawberries, expect it to take 2 to 3 months to grow from the plant, and a little longer if you begin growing them by the seed. While some two-parent households may find it difficult to raise children today, imagine how increasingly difficult it must be for a single parent. Here are some facts about single parenting that will dispel many myths associated with it.

What was once thought as the exception to the rule is now becoming the norm. Statistics reveal that there are approximately 59% of children in the US who are raised by single parents. In fact, over 15 million children live in single-parent homes today.

Another fact about single parenting is that there is no more emotional or behavioral problems experienced by children that those who are raised by a two-parent household. Thus, children who live with a single parent grow up just as healthy and are just as emotionally secure as children who live with two parents.

Sometimes children who live with a single parent are labeled. Their peers may tease them about coming from a broken home or that one parent left because of them. Yes, kids can be cruel. The fact is that children have nothing to do with the fact that moms and dads fall out of love or can no longer live with each other. In fact, when a parent leaves, it opens the door for a more peaceful and stable home life. Moreover, single parents are just as creative and responsible that dual parents.

Another myth that has to be dispelled is that children who grow up with single parents lose their self-worth and confidence. This is so far from the truth. A child’s self-worth is no more dependent upon a single parent than two parents. Situations can occur in both households wherein children lose their self-esteem due to peer pressure and other outside forces that make them feel less confident. A good parent will teach their child to become a viable member of society, filled with self-love and respect for oneself and others.

Another notion that single parents cannot sufficient raise children is a misnomer. There are more single parents today who are successfully raising children despite the many challenges they face. They hold jobs, take care of the kids, and complete all of the daily tasks that face them.

If there is a problem in a single family household, there are a number of support groups for single parents wherein they can network with other single parents and discuss issues that all are familiar with and can help each other learn to cope with the day to day trials and tribulations of raising children. More importantly, single parents learn very early on how to nurture their children and give them the wisdom and strength to become independent members of society.
